How Did Apito Provisions Start?
Dennis Apito started this business in 1982 with a single category: premium deli meats. No warehouse full of categories, no broadline catalog — just cold cuts, sold to kitchens that cared about what went in a sandwich.
Forty years later we carry more than 1,400 items across eight categories. What has not changed is that we still hand-pick every brand we carry.
Family-Owned, and It Shows
There are larger distributors in New Jersey. What they cannot offer is the thing our customers tell us matters most: you speak to someone who knows your account.
When you call, you reach people who know what you ordered last week, what you run out of on Fridays, and which items you care about most. That is not a service tier we sell — it is simply what a family business looks like at this size.
More than 500 kitchens order from us regularly, and most came through another customer telling them to call.
That word-of-mouth pattern says something about how this business has grown. We have never been the cheapest distributor in New Jersey and have never tried to be. What we offer instead is that the product arrives when promised, in the condition it should, and that someone picks up the phone when something goes wrong.

Every one of them earned its place on the list. We do not stock a brand because it carries the best margin.
